Sreehatta Sammelani,
Bangalore- The concept
The words ‘sylhet’ and ‘sylheti’ echoes back perpetually in the minds
and brains of every sylheti wherever they are and so also in this
southern city, the IT capital of India, Bangalore which is around two
thousand odd miles away from the nerve center -sylhet.
A never ending search for sylhetis still continues , the search is for
its origin , for the past; the search possibly can end only within
ourselves. Sharing enriches and synergiges the irremovable ,
unforgettable, un-ignorable ‘sylheti aana’ which is very much with in
every one of us and probably that is the reason why the sylheti
community could not fully get integrated into other linguistic
mainstreams even today although the sylhetis have a greater compromising
and accommodating attitude. The concept “Sreehatta Sammelani Bangalore”
is a small but certainly a firm initiative towards bringing together the
sylhetis residing in Bangalore on a common, integrated , cohesive forum.
The sylhetis in last half a century has seen and undergone historical,
political, cultural transitions and transformation and very often then
not, unwillingly confronted with highly intoxicated pseudo random
xenophobic environment. But have been able to sustain till now, some of
its uniqueness. The community which was so home loving and deep rooted
to ethos and culture, should not be blamed for the forgetfulness of its
past and should not become a historical paradox for the future.
“Sreehatta Sammelani Bangalore” is a platform for we, the sylhetis to
share our views and ideas, to inspire ourselves, energize our minds and
most importantly help one another when in need. This community which is
better known for its homelessness, possess the unique language which
keeps their identity alive and bind them together by an unseen, yet
strong force of togetherness, at the same time seamlessly able to
embrace the greater umbrella of mainstream Bengali language and
literature for many, although certainly not for all purposes. Let us
hope, pray and put our little efforts together in sync so that the small
but honest and determined beginning of today becomes a gigantic
mindspace of tomorrow.
